Halloween is a fun time for food bloggers and mommies to put on their creative hats and come up with delicious ways to celebrate this scary holiday! Check¬†Pinterest and you’ll find a zillion different food ideas that’ll make your skin crawl! From Jell-O worms to Pumpkin Cookies to Goblin Juice the ideas are endless.

Halloween in China is really catching on. I don’t know if it’s the dressing up or the bag of goodies. Maybe it’s the fact that western society is becoming more visible thanks to television, movies and the internet. Maybe it’s us. Expats living in China, trick or treating in their compounds- where the maids, delivery guys, taxis, security guards and drivers see the decorations and excited children. Parents and children alike want to partake in this fun day. It’s really great to see more and. more Chinese families getting into the Halloween spirit. It’s such a fun day! Need more proof that the Chinese are embracing Halloween?

Head over to Carrefour, Metro, Pearl Market and Yu Yuan Gardens for a peak at how this American tradition has invaded China. Costumes and decorations are packed in stall after stall. These places mainly cater to a Chinese clientele, not us westerners so for Carrefour and Metro to sell Halloween stuff that’s all the proof you need.

When I decided to do come up with a Halloween recipe I really wanted to incorporate a bit of China into it. In the shower (where I come up with a lot of my ideas) I brainstormed some ideas. I’m a fan of cheese balls these days. They’re easy to make, you don’t need any fancy equipment and they’re sooooooo delicious!! One ingredient that is quite specific to China (and India) is Black Sesame. Black and white sesame taste very similar although the black ones do have a slightly nuttier taste. Really, the only significant¬†difference is their color. White sesame looks pretty in pictures but for a Halloween themed recipe black sesame is perfect!

Roll your flavored cheeseball in black sesame to create these cute Halloween Spider Cheeseballs. These treats will be perfect at your next Halloween party. Halloween Spider Cheeseballs are incredibly fast and easy to make. In fact they’re so easy just give them the mixture to your kids to roll while you do something else (or just relax and catch up on The Voice).
