Move over Jif! There’s a new peanut butter company in Shanghai who is producing some of the best nut butters I have ever tasted! Stone Ground!

What sets them apart from the usual commercial peanut butters?  Stone Ground Nut Butters are made in small batches using an ancient method to transform nuts to a delectable butter.

Originally used for turning olives into olive oil, stone-grinding applies pressure with powerful granite wheels. Although “old world” in its approach, it is revolutionary in terms of preserving nutrients and flavor.

In short, Stone Ground uses a pestle and mortar machine that grinds the nuts into a butter. The result is a butter that’s smooth but still retain a little bit of a texture that I really enjoyed. All of the nuts are roasted before Stone Ground transforms them into nut butter heaven, which takes 4-12 hours of grinding depending on the size of the batch. There are no additives at all. Just pure, wholesome stuff. No refined or artificial sugar! No oil! But the Espresso Almond and Cacao Peanut Butter do have a touch of honey to pull out the natural sweetness of the nuts.

Each jar is full of pure ingredients, very nutritious and creatively delicious flavors like Almond Butter with Sea Salt, Espresso Almond, Peanut Butter and Cacao Peanut. Of course being the great blogger that I had to taste all of the butters and may I just say wow! I was very impressed with the quality and taste of the different flavors.
Let’s start with the two almond butters. The first, Almond Butter with Sea Salt was beautifully smooth with a definite salty flavour that balanced the subtle sweetness of the almonds. It’s also the perfect alternative for those allergic to peanuts, and a bonus, it has half the saturated fats of peanut butter. The second almond butter is a bit more exotic, Espresso Almond. Stone Ground grinds together freshly roasted espresso beans with the almond to create a unique butter with an energy kick. The texture of this one was a bit gritty, but I didn’t mind it, and I’m sure you won’t either.

Stone Ground also offers two types of peanut butters. Traditional Peanut Butter and Cacao Peanut Butter. The traditional peanut butter was a zillion times tastier than anything you’re ever going to find on a store shelf. But as much as I loved this one, I went completely gaga over their Cacao Peanut Butter. Talk about delicious! I may or may not have sat in the kitchen alone and eaten spoon after spoon after spoon straight from the jar.

I really loved the flavors of butters Stone Ground offered and I know you will too!
