Tonight I wanted to give my Little Nomad’s a special treat without baking up a storm in my kitchen. So I thought about what ingredients I had at home. I have a refrigerator drawer full of lemons as well as lots and lots of strawberries (¥8.5 for a pound right now you better believe I stocked up!) I decided to surprise my Little Nomads with…
We’re a water drinking family. Even when the kids were very young their sippy cups were always full of water. Not juice. Not milk. Water. So getting a cup of freshly squeezed Strawberry Lemonade for dinner is a treat around here!
Not only is it ridiculously delicious, it’s ridiculously easy to make! The lemonade recipe itself is fantastic. A perfect balance of tart and sweet. And oh so refreshing!
My biggest pet peeve when I make lemonade? Stirring and stirring waiting for the sugar to dissolve. Make your life easier and combine the sugar and water on the stove top for just a few minutes until the sugar dissolves. Do not allow the water to simmer and definitely do not let it boil! It won’t take too long for the liquid to return to room temperature and then proceed by adding the lemon juice and strawberries.
I love the addition of the strawberries. Not only does it add a punch of bright color to the Lemonade, but strawberries naturally compliment lemons.
I could drink cup after cup after cup of it!
Which leaves me with a bit of a conundrum…
Will I share?
Or will I take the pitcher and a straw and hide in the closet, greedily savoring every sip of it?
The perfect amount of tartness and sweetness!
- 1 cup Sugar
- 7 cups Water
- 2 cups Lemon Juice
- 6oz (about 2 cups) Strawberries
- In a large pot on medium heat, add the sugar and water. Stir occassionally until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and set aside to allow the muxture to return to room temperature.
- Pulse strawberries in a blender adding a tablespoon or two of lemon juice to help it blend.
- Pour the water and sugar, lemon juice and the puréed strawberries to a large pitcher.
- Stir to combine.
- Serve chilled.
Reduce the amount of lemon juice to 1 1/2 cups if you prefer the Lemonade to be less tart.
